Anal fissure is the tear in the lining of the anal canal. It is caused due to the passage of the hard stools through the anal canal.

  • Topical calcium channel blockers/nitroglycerine: to relieve anal spasm
  • Laxatives to relieve constipation
  • Botox injection
  • Sitz bath
  • Surgical

    Partial lateral anal sphincterotomy –which involves cutting a small portion of the anal sphincter muscle to reduce spasm and pain, and promote healing.

    Prevention

  • Drinking plenty of water
  • High fibre diet
  • Taking greens and leafy vegetables
  • Avoid straining at stools
