removal of cancer tissue but leaves most of the normal tissue. some surgeon remove the lymph node for a biopsy.
sentinel lymph node biopsy
sentinel lymph node is the one which is the first node to drain cancer tissue. it is biopsy to find whether cancer has spred to it. if the spread node is negative for cancer.
axillary dissection is avoided.
sentinel lymph node positive
proceed with axillary node dissection
sentinel lymph node negative
no need for axillary node dissection
breast conservation surgery it usualy coupled with radiotherapy to prevent recurrences.
